Fruit and Vegetable Washing Brushes

Washing fruit and vegetables before fungicide or wax treatment is standard practice in a packhouse as it removes fungal spores and bacteria and keeps the packline and equipment clean.

Our brushes are are manfactured with various diameters of filaments for washing, peeling or polishing of a variety of fruit and vegetables.

Brushes are available in the following bristle / filament:

Washing Brushes

Polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) bristle is becoming more popular in the brush and broom industry due to it’s heat resistance and excellent mechanical characteristics.

It is manufactured using recycled raw material

PET has better bend recovery and water absorption properties than polypropylene.

Polypropylene is a versatile, stiff, low cost filament used for a wide variety of applications. Polypropylene will not absorb moisture or odors and sheds dirt easily. It has excellent wet stiffness, abrasive tip cleaning action, is non-brittle, and is inert to most solvents, oil, acids, and chemicals.

It is, in fact, one of the most chemically resistant synthetic filament materials available. It has a maximum short-term use temperature of 225°F (107°C) and a maximum continuous use temperature of 175°F (79°C).

It has poor bend recovery.

Polyethylene is a soft durable material suitable for applications where abrasion is to be avoided. These flexible bristles are very efficient for thorough washing and polishing of delicate fruits and vegetables. Polyethylene is ideal for soft, non-scratch wiping instead of a brushing action.

Polyethylene bristle is manufactured with special, low density polyethylene (LDPE).

Its produces more elastic like fibres. It is flexible, water-resistant and durable.

Drying Brushes

Drying brushes are used to remove the water from the fruit before wax is applied.

The best results are brushes manufactured with a nylon bristle.

Brushes are available in the following bristle / filament:

Nylon has excellent bend recovery, temperature stability and abrasion resistance.

Excellent water absorption.

This has produced the best results for our customers.

Waxing Brushes

Waxing brushes are used for waxing the fruit.

Brushes are available in the following bristle / filament:

Horsehair’s soft to slightly stiff texture gives a scratch-free dry cleaning and has very good durability.

Horse hair is highly absorbent due to the many tapered scales along its length which allow it to carry liquids (water, ink, paint) very well.

Not resistant to acids or alkalis.  Its heat distortion temperature is 370º F.

A combination of horsehair and nylon bristle can be used in waxing brushes.

Transfer Brushes

Transfer brushes are used in the selection process that sorts fruit according to certain specifications.

Transfer brushes are made with polyethylene and this bristle is flagged.

Strip Brushes

Strip brushes are versatile and have a number of applications: sealing, conveyor cleaning, surface cleaning, surface roughening, dusting, product separation or transfer, tensioning devices, static dissipation, external or internal pipe cleaning, filter or screen cleaning, glass washing or fruit or vegetable washing.
