Our Offering

John Gray & Son manufactures a wide range of brushes that can be used in the agricultural industry.

From washing to drying to waxing to transferring fruit and vegetables, John Gray has the solution.

Our brushes have been for the following: citrus, apples, mangoes, watermelon, melon, butternut, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocados and potatoes.

We offer various types of bristle and these include polypropylene, PET, polyethylene and nylon.

Interlocking System

John Gray offers a punched brush.

We have designed an interlocking brush system for the agricultural industry.

Each brush has a male and female fitting that allows you to assemble the brushes on a shaft.  Only the brushes on each end need to be secured with a pop rivet or bolt.

Advantages of this system

  • You do not need to pop rivet every brush to the shaft only the end brushes – this protects the integrity of the shaft which is often weakened by a number of pop rivets
  • It speeds up maintenance as the brushes are easy to remove and clean
  • Brushes can easily be moved around to different positions or shafts to increase the length of use of the brushes
  • Damaged brushes can easily be replaced or moved to a section of the machine that has less wear

Washing

Washing fruit and vegetables before fungicide or wax treatment is standard practice in a packhouse as it removes fungal spores and bacteria and keeps the packline and equipment clean.

Our brushes are are manfactured with various diameters of filaments for washing, peeling or polishing of a variety of fruit and vegetables.

Brushes are available in the following bristle / filament:
PET, Polypropylene and Nylon

Drying

Drying brushes and drying rings are used to remove the water from the fruit.

Drying rings are thin plastic rings that are placed on a shaft – these plastic rings are used in conjunction with drying brushes and/ or donuts.

Brushes are available in the following bristle / filament:
Polypropylene, polyethylene and nylon

Waxing

Waxing brushes are used for waxing the fruit.

Brushes are available in the following bristle:

Polypropylene, polyethylene

Transfer

Transfer brushes are used in the selection process that sorts fruit according to certain specifications.

Transfer brushes are made with polyethylene and this bristle is often flagged.

Polyethylene is a soft durable material suitable for applications where abrasion is to be avoided. These flexible bristles are very efficient for thorough washing and polishing of delicate fruits and vegetables. Polyethylene is ideal for soft, non-scratch wiping instead of a brushing action.

Polyethylene bristle is manufactured with special, low density polyethylene (LDPE).

Its produces more elastic like fibres. It is flexible, water-resistant and durable.

Strip Brushes

Strip brushes are versatile and have a number of applications: sealing, conveyor cleaning, surface cleaning, surface roughening, dusting, product separation or transfer, tensioning devices, static dissipation, external or internal pipe cleaning, filter or screen cleaning, glass washing or fruit or vegetable washing.

We offer these brushes in polypropylene, nylon and stainless steel.Â
